from the Chairman
2008 marks the 10 year anniversary of the Darien Technology & Community Foundation. It’s amazing how far we’ve come! Our early years focused on the public schools in town and we were successful at encouraging the school administration to develop and implement a long term technology plan. Once that was established, our grants began to touch many of the other organizations that make Darien such an appealing community, including the Darien Library (old and new!), the Darien Historical Society, the Depot, the volunteer Fire Departments, Post 53, the Police boat, and the Senior Center. We’ve truly had a widespread impact on the town.
Just over a year ago we expanded our mission to include capital grants in addition to technology grants. We awarded two capital grants this year: a $50,000 pledge to the Playground by the Sound at Weed Beach and a grant to the Blue Wave Pride Club to have the Darien “D” logo put on the stadium field and gym floor of Darien High School. Technology grants were awarded to the Technology Education department at DHS as well as to the Town of Darien for the development of a new and vastly improved interactive town website. We feel great about the work we do in Darien. It’s because of generous people like you who believe in a dynamic and strong community that we are successful. Your continued support is critical – please give generously!
Sincerely yours,
Ward Glassmeyer
